Alison Roser’s new year got underway with a bang in 2024 – and not in a good way. She was let go from her customer service job in the automotive industry.
The Fort Wayne resident was in her mid-fifties and worried that her age might be a problem in finding another job. Compounding her fears is that it was only the second time in her adult life that she was jobless.
“It caused me to have anxiety, which I had never had in my life,” she says. “My confidence was really low. My self-esteem was really low. And no one was responding to the jobs I was applying for.”
She sought assistance from WorkOne Northeast and they “got me refocused and encouraged me.” She attended workshops on resumes, interviews and digital platforms. She learned how to keep herself mentally, physically and financially healthy. She attended WorkOne hiring events. “WorkOne was beside me every step of the way in my job search.”
In September, it all paid off. She landed a job as an eligibility assistant with the Family and Social Services Administration in Allen County.
“I’m so happy inside and out,” she says. “It’s unbelievable. This is a job I was meant to have. This is a job God put together for me, no ifs, ands or buts about it. I now have the dream job I didn’t even know existed.”
